Obviously the weight thing is still a work in progress. We have added as much extra fat as we can as well as try to feed her every other minute during the day but those of you who have toddlers know how picky and finicky they can be about eating and our little Lola is no exception! She is much too busy playing and figuring things out to waste time with food. Her pediatrician isn't too overly concerned but we are still on a strict Power Packing diet and will now be having monthly weight checks until Lola gains a bit more and is able to keep it on. Other than her weight, Lola is developing and progressing right on track and is a healthy, happy and VERY busy little toddler!
At 15 months our Lola Viola:
Graduated from formula to whole milk (mixed with Pediasure for some much needed extra nutrients)(at 13 months)
Cut her fourth molar (in May) making her total number of teeth 12!
Walking very well, running, and can even walk backwards now (which she does when she's scared or nervous or sometimes just because)
Is still taking 2 naps a day with each being between 1- 3 hours long
Is starting to fit into 12 month size clothes. She needs them mostly for her length because her waist still fits a 6-9 month size. And she is a size 3 shoe size
Wants to feed herself with a spoon or fork. This is my least favorite because I absolutely dread cleaning up the mess. But it makes her feel like such a big girl and I do love making her happy :)
Is starting to climb on everything- the couch, my bed, the stove, the dishwasher, any drawers left open, the fridge, chairs, and anything else she thinks she can get up and over
Can go up and down the stairs completely on her own now with an occasional biff going down
Says: Doggy, get it, arh-arh (doggy barking), uh-oh, ee-ee (binki), look, and occasionally Momma, Dadda, yeah, okay, and ba-ba (bottle)
Has started throwing occasional tantrums. She lays on the floor or leans on the couch and cries into her hands. Luckily, the kicking and thrashing hasn't started yet and a quick distraction ends it right away
Likes to play with the phone and put it up to her ear and nod her head and jabber like she's actually talking to someone. She also likes to draw, color and read books together
Can point to her belly button, suck through a straw, try to dress herself and put her shoes on, comb her hair, brush her teeth, push her babies and stuffed animals in her toy stroller, un-Velcro her diaper if she doesn't have bottoms on, wipe her own face, and the list goes on
Absolutely LOVES being outside and going for walks or to play at the park.
Also loves ice cubes, popsicles, sno-cones, cheese, yogurt covered raisins and of course anything sweet
Is obsessed with grapes lately and will go to the fridge, open the fruit drawer, pull out the bag and sit on the kitchen floor eating as many grapes as she can.
Is as sweet as ever but has definitely entered Toddler-hood. She can whine with the best of them, demand things, get into trouble when you're not looking, not take her naps, take things from other kids (even her older sister), run a way when you call for her, dump things out just to make a mess, do something even though you've asked her 100 times not to and every other naughty early toddler behavior. But she also does very cute and sweet things like give hugs, open mouth-kisses, blows kisses, wants in on my and Daddy's hugs, shares her toys and food (most times), adores Brooklyn and always wants to be wherever she is- doing whatever Brooklyn is doing, goes straight to sleep every night, wakes up smiley and happy every morning, brings books to you when she wants to read with you, has the cutest spastic body and head banging dance moves ever, and is ALWAYS making us smile, laugh and fall more in love with her than we ever thought possible! We are excited for what the next few months will bring our lovely Lola and to see her experience Fall, Halloween, snow and Christmas again this year!
Brooklyn started Second Grade this last Wednesday. She is very excited for school this year. She told us that she already knows everything they are going to learn because she is smart enough already! The night before the first day we went and met her teacher and saw her classroom. Here is her and Daddy on the morning of her first day. She is getting so big and and looking more grown up these days... beautiful as always and still looking just like her Daddy (but the cutest version of Luke I ever did see :) We are so excited for our Brooklyn and know that she is going to have SO much fun in Second Grade!
This last weekend was the first time since June that we didn't have something planned somewhere else (ie: St George, Bear Lake, Denver) and since Lola hadn't yet been to Hogle Zoo, we decided to go check it out. Luke had never been either and I haven't been since I was about 3 years old so it was pretty much a first for all 3 of us. Growing up in Southern California where they take their zoo's seriously, this one was quite small and dinky in comparison, but it was fun none the less. Lola had a love/scared relationship with most of the animals. She wanted us to push her stroller right up to the edge but then as soon as the animal moved, she'd get scared and cry and want us to back her up. Then 2 minutes later she'd whine for us to push her forward again! She was scared but entranced all at the same time- just couldn't take her eyes off those wonderous creatures :) Her favorite were the monkeys and her least favorite were the Giraffes (one got right up to the fence and way scared the breath out of her. I thought she was going to pass out!). We had a great time- the weather was perfect, it wasn't too crowded and we even got to leave without having to buy any souvenirs or treats (aka: junk)!!
Lola was recently invited by a photographer we know to be in a photo shoot for a company's new clothing line. She and another cute little girl, Avery, had a lot of fun pretending to have a tea party. With both girls being 1, it wasnt much a shoot for posing and multiple props. We had to hurry and shoot what we could while they were being entertained with the tea set. The pictures turned out pretty cute and we're excited to see them show up on the company's website soon!
We spent a few days in Bear Lake last weekend and had a lot of fun. My parents and brother, Taylor came out from Denver along with our family friend, Monica and her daughter, Lilly. Paige, Matt, their baby Lincoln and my grandpa also made the trip up. We were so glad to spend a few days with everyone hanging out and relaxing. We went to the beach, rode four-wheelers, did A LOT of sitting around, enjoyed famous Bear Lake raspberry shakes and also went to Lava Hot Springs and rode inner tubes down a river with rapids. Brooklyn surprised us all with how brave she was going down the river. Even after going over a large rapid/drop, being thrown out and going under, she wanted to do it all again!!
If I wasn't superstitious about Friday the 13th before, I certainly am now. I hadn't even acknowledged what day it was and It made sure I paid for that... It hid under a sinkhole in the parking lot behind Red Robin and jumped out and tripped me when I wasn't looking! Whether my hands were in my pockets or it has just been so long since Ive fallen and forgot how to break my fall with my hands, is still unclear, but my hands never hit the ground. Instead, my chin did. After picking myself up off the ground and going to the ladies room to evaluate the damage, it was apparent that I was in need of some medical attention. Half a box of band-aids (for my knees) and 9 stitches later, I left the ER in a little better shape. I have to joke about it or I will cry every time I look at my stitches and soon to be scar. But at least its on the underside of my chin and once the stitches are out and the wound heals, wont be too noticeable. How lucky is that outcome of my unlucky incident? :)
July was a busy and exciting month at our house. We went to Denver the first week, to St George to meet our new nephew the second and third weeks, and had my brother Nathan, his girlfriend Ally and their baby boy Landon over to visit the last week. I previously posted the pictures of my sister Paige's new baby, Lincoln and our trips to St George, so here are the rest of the miscellaneous photos from last month.
Lola's first pig tails! I cant believe how fast her hair is growing! Her bangs are completely in her eyes now, but Im hardly ready to cut her baby hair just yet! I mostly pull it up into one or two little pig tails on top of her head that make her look like Pebbles Flinstone :)
Celebrating Pioneer Day at the Park
Lola learning to use her big girl spoon!
Lola and cousin Landon. He is only 6 months old but weighs a whopping 20+ pounds already! He has Lola beat by over 2 pounds. Hims is a BIG boy and we cant get enough of him! He is so sweet and aside from being a little fussy (from teething) he was so much fun to have around. We also enjoyed my brother and Ally's company too :)
Getting into some trouble
Super Lola with her cape...
and ready for take-off!
Momma's bathing beauty...always chewing on her finger :)
I'm Sydney, a recently divorced, twenty-something year old, now single mother of 3 beautiful and amazing children. Brooklyn is 9. She is technically my former step-daughter but will always be part of our family and loved just the same. She is genuinely sweet, very creative and full of personality! Lola, 3, is very energetic, incredibly spirited and adores her big sister! Rhett is 8 months old and one of the happiest, most easy going babies I know! He is a wonderful blessing and the perfect addition to our family. I am so lucky and ever grateful to have such sweet little angels who fill my everydays with love and happiness.
